Hello,

 

I am rather new to Rhino and I have the following problem:

 

I have three surfaces: a Plane, a Cone and a fillet between them. I want to join these three surfaces into one surface in order to subdivide it with panneling tools or grasshopper.

 

The problem is that the three individual surfaces seem to have different directions and therefore both panneling tools and grasshopper provide each surface with a different kind of pattern.

 

I have tried to join the surfaces, take sections of it and create a new surface from these sections by using surface-->curve network. However this still leaves me with a surface with a distorted division while I want an even division.

Is there any other way to creat this shape in one surface with an even distribution from the panelling tools?

Hi romy,

There is a way to deal with this case in PanelingTools using ptGridCurve command.  Here are the steps (you need to work from the top view).  Let me know if this is helpful.

As the geometry is part of a design that I'm making for my graduation project, it continuously keeps evolving (and it continuously keeps exceeding my digital modelling scales). Therefore I have a second variant which consists of 1 plane and three (instead of one) penetrating cones.

I hope that there is some almighty rhino wizzard around that can share some thoughts about this one with me. Again thanks very much in advance!

Hi Romy,

The new form is much harder to represent seamlessly in a rectangular grid, which is the limitation or PanelingTools.  Try to explore other plugins like Evolute.  It can handle such cases.

I already feared that the surface would indeed be to complicated to subdivide.

Nevertheless I would very much like to thank you for your replies to my questions.

I indeed discovered evolute a few days ago and I will try it out during the comming few days.
