I'm exploring Rhino as a means of designing sculpture and producing shop drawings for fabrication. I downloaded and worked through the Level 1 training manual. I need more help on:
- layouts, making 2D drawings
Can you recommend some study and reference materials that cover these subjects well? I like books better than videos but I'll consider anything.
Those are covered in both the Users Guide and in the Level 1 class notes:
Thanks for the quick reply! I've downloaded and worked through both of those documents already -- can you suggest a book or other resource that I might buy?
Those are the only ones I have any person experience with.
There's a more detailed Layouts tutorial but I don't think it's been updated for V5 yet.
Cplanes are pretty straight forward. The Help file has the details. It's tools like Planar or elevator mode that work in conjunction with the current Construction Plane that can get tricky.
There are a number of McNeel-generated on-line classes introducing V5 that were just released in the fall. There is one specifically for layouts:
If you go to Vimeo.com and look for:
SESSION 6- 2D IMPROVEMENTS FOR LAYOUT, ANNOTATIONS & DIMENSIONS
You'll find it's very helpful.
Also, there is an online class for Level 1 that is starting this week. You may want to take it:
Our Level 1 Rhino 5 online course begins next week on April 4th. The course will consist of seven sessions (a short orientation with GoToTraining plus six half-days of Rhino 5 training).
All sessions are instructor-led and will be recorded for later viewing. If you cannot make a session, watch the video and catch up before the class meets again.
The Vimeo item that Cosmas Demetriou mentioned: SESSION 6- 2D IMPROVEMENTS FOR LAYOUT, ANNOTATIONS & DIMENSIONS is excellent. Considering the amount of attention given to this subject, especially in the Rhino 6 - Your Hopes thread on the newsgroup, it seems that McNeel should give it some prominence on the website because it answers many questions Rhino users have.
