I'm baffled by this one.
Lately, whenever I run Rhino 5, I'm encountering a strange intermittent problem with the enter and escape keys. At first, they will work as expected, but after a certain amount of time, they begin to trigger odd functions. the "enter" key will try to run the "Catalyst" command, and the "escape" key triggers the "Insight" command. I have double-checked my custom keyboard shortcuts, and there's nothing out of the ordinary. Also, hitting the space bar continues to function like "Enter" is supposed to.
Quitting and restarting rhino fixes the problem for a while. This is quite annoying however - is there anything I can do to fix it? or is it a bug to be fixed in a later release? Anyone else experiencing the same issue?
If it makes a difference I'm running Windows 7 on Bootcamp on a Macbook Pro, with Rhino 5 64-bit, and the problem seems to occur when I've been running Grasshopper for a while (but I am nearly always running grasshopper so it is hard to know if this is a contributing factor).

Normally, when you press Enter in Rhino at a blank Command prompt, Rhino repeats the last command. It is possible that the command name in the 'last used' buffer can be wrong. If so, it's a bug and a hard one to track down.
There also is a 'Never repeat the following commands' list on the General tab in options. If you've been messing with that, that can cause problems.
Additionally, Bootcamp has tools for remapping what key strokes do. I don't recall that 'Enter' was one of them but it's worth looking into.
My money is on Grasshopper not doing perfect 'house cleaning' in keeping the last used command list in sync, but that is just a guess.

Considering I've never used either command, I expect it's either a last-used buffer bug as you describe or something having to do with grasshopper. I haven't messed much with bootcamp key remapping or any of the key-related options in Rhino. If I figure out in any more detail what triggers the problem I'll post an update.

Permalink Reply by dave pigram on January 3, 2013 at 3:46pm I am experiencing the same problem (enter and escape do nothing) after running python code through 'editpythonscript'. No answers as yet.
Permalink Reply by Hjörtur Sigurðsson on January 23, 2013 at 6:11am I have been experiencing the same issue. The issue is however resolved once I click the middle mouse button in the model space to start the quick menu.
