James Carruthers replied to Johannes Kuhnen's discussion Broken render mesh / surface ??
"Yes it's the same mesher, and yes and no on calling it a "bug." The basic 'faster' and 'slower' options are just two fairly arbitrarily sets of settings, they're not going to be perfect for everything. There…"

James Carruthers replied to Johannes Kuhnen's discussion Broken render mesh / surface ??
"That sort of detail can indicate an error in the trim, but it appears to just me a meshing glitch. If you join up your surfaces it seems to go away."

Joel Edelstein replied to James Carruthers's discussion Generating environment maps in the group Neon
"I don't know why this would be an issue. Obviously somebody desiring this feature would just want to switch to a 180 degree view for this functionality, and then switch back. I could see this being very useful for previewing, particularly for…"

Andrew le Bihan replied to James Carruthers's discussion Generating environment maps in the group Neon
"No - sorry.  It would be *really* confusing to have it project spherically in the viewport, wouldn't it?"

Is there a way to do that at present? It doesn't seem to respond to the lens settings.See More

James Carruthers replied to Ahmed Hossam's discussion Zoom some parts of the screen?!
"Are you looking for some sort of picture-in-picture effect? You could make a page layout that looks like that but I think practically you'd have to assemble something like that from multiple animations in video editing software."

James Carruthers replied to Mike Roberts's discussion Applying a decal to a clear object
"Of course Rhino's basic built-in renderer is very basic, more limited than Flamingo(which you can use in V5.) You could get it done, but not using the "decal" function. Of course realistically the decal on the bottle would be a…"

James Carruthers replied to Mike Roberts's discussion Applying a decal to a clear object
"Hi Mike, You need the decal(well, a black and white version of it) to affect the transparency as well as the color. I don't think Rhino's "decal" tool can do that, though."

James Carruthers replied to Christopher Hauk's discussion light curvature on a curved beam
"Yeah I'm not sure if it's the extreme length of the piece that's making this flakey but there are some "bad" objects there (ExtractBadSrf or SelBadObjects) and I'm at a bit of a loss as to where they came from. How did…"

James Carruthers replied to Christopher Hauk's discussion light curvature on a curved beam
"How did you make your cutting geometry? From the Right view it looks like you're basically trimming this off with a cylinder, so it would be best to just do that. The other option might be to make the rounding part of the basic shape that you…"

"Hmm, it is pretty old, it's OpenGL support may not be so great. Try unchecking the 'use accelerated modes' box and restarting Rhino."
