James Carruthers replied to Wiona van Huyssteen's discussion All view ports are grey..no grids or axis visible. Please help!
"Hmm, it is pretty old, it's OpenGL support may not be so great. Try unchecking the 'use accelerated modes' box and restarting Rhino."

James Carruthers replied to Wiona van Huyssteen's discussion All view ports are grey..no grids or axis visible. Please help!
"Well if the grid is turned on you should be able to see it unless you're zoomed in somewhere...try running the command "ZEA" (Zoom Extents All) on an exercise file and see if that brings the objects into view. I guess the next…"

James Carruthers replied to James Carruthers's discussion Changing object layer not updating material when set to "by layer" in the group Neon
"Hi Brian, Yes, if I switch Neon off and on again it's correct."

Brian James replied to James Carruthers's discussion Changing object layer not updating material when set to "by layer" in the group Neon
"Hi Jim, Check if you have the objects set to 'by layer' in object props>material. "

James Carruthers replied to Mike B's discussion Printing blue prints
"Ah I remember actual blueprinting, racing downtown at 6am to get it done before class. Since the schools' plotter was somewhat unreliable and very busy, I at some point actually did CAD blueprints by printing out my drawings on adhesive injket…"

James Carruthers replied to Andrew R's discussion Possible to convert a .STL file to a .3DM file? If so how?
"Dang...yeah, NURBS to mesh is a one-way trip."

James Carruthers replied to Andrew R's discussion Possible to convert a .STL file to a .3DM file? If so how?
"Not automagically, or easily, except in certain special trivial cases, it's one of the most advanced, least-fun things you can do with Rhino. The software that claims to do it automatically costs a ton and produces generally very nasty results.…"

James Carruthers replied to Przemek's discussion Glowing objects?
"The "emission color" setting can make an object look like it's lit-up, but it's not actually going to emit light with the basic Rhino renderer."

James Carruthers replied to Kouprizas Anastasis's discussion Rhino - Boolean Problem
"Well I guess there's kind of an overall problem with tolerances and precision here. To start the tolerances for the file are rather loose, I guess they're from the 'large objects-meters' template? Well for my preferences…"

"It would appear to be just a render mesh thing, are both of those pieces trimmed off or just one?"

James Carruthers replied to Mathilde's discussion OffetSurf behaves inconsistant with some fonts
"Look at the cuves, likely using CurvatureGraph, see if anything looks "screwy." I don't have that font to check myself."

James Carruthers replied to Mathilde's discussion OffetSurf behaves inconsistant with some fonts
"It could be something to do with the tolerances needed for the offset to work being 'close enough' when it's scaled down and not when it's bigger...but basically any font you use will have never been designed to be turned into…"

James Carruthers replied to James Lake's discussion Surfaces from planar curves
"Well if you extract the base surfaces so that you have a clean hole to fill in, and run DupBorder to see the seam of the area you're trying to fill in, then explode that curve, and then Join it back up segment-by-segment, you'll find that…"

James Carruthers replied to James Lake's discussion Surfaces from planar curves
"I see two problems. The one hole you're trying to fill in does in fact in one corner have a small notch throwing it out of flat by exactly 0.001mm. Not sure how to made it so I'm not sure where it came from. The other is that on first…"

Rhino training for eastern Canada and northern US

After doing mostly online and on-site Rhino training for many years, I'm looking to set up permanent training space in a small town 1/2 hour south of Ottawa and 2 hours west of Montreal.

The first classes scheduled are a Rhino Level 1 running March 13-15th, and a Level 2 for April 3-5th. Sign up at http://hydraulicdesign.net/#training

If you're interested in different dates, 2-day intensive classes, evening or…
