Suggestions for UnrollSrf

Another unrolling conundrum

Attached is a RH5 file with a very simple developable surface. When I try to unroll it, instead of unrolling, it coils up into some weird spiral form.-PhilContinue

Boolean bug in RH5
3 Replies

This is to report a singular and, unfortunately, irreproducible bug in RH5. I was attempting to do a union of two intersecting solids but, instead, one of the solids kept disappearing. So I used the…Continue

Ed Zargon replied to Phil Pilgrim's discussion Boolean bug in RH5
"Hi Pascal, I tried to do a boolean union of two solids in 5.0. After multiple attempts and testing different solids I keep on getting a missing surface in one of these solids. I moved my pieces to 4.0 and my boolean…"

"One additional request: since there's no control over where the objects created by UnrollSrf are placed, they should either be grouped or selected so that they can be moved without having to window select them. It's too easy for the latter…"

Suggestions for UnrollSrf

The command UnrollSrf has a provision for including curves that already exist on the surface. It would be convenient, however, if it also had a provision for including intersections with other objects. This would eliminate the necessity for littering one's design with a bunch of curves that are used only for unrolling.Another thing that would come in handy when unrolling multiple adjacent surfaces or polysurfaces would be the addition of tick marks along the edges at a definable interval and…See More

Helvetosaur replied to Phil Pilgrim's discussion Union failure in RH5
"Hi, This kind of thing will classically give you problems, anytime you have a curved surface that  attempts to match to a flat surface in a near-tangent condition is likely to fail.  To see why it does, run Intersect between the two…"

Phil Pilgrim replied to Phil Pilgrim's discussion Another unrolling conundrum
"Some additional info: The problem for RH5 appears to reside with the surface's pointy end. If I trim it off, the surface unrolls normally. Also, the original surface unrolls okay in RH4. -Phil"

Helvetosaur replied to Phil Pilgrim's discussion Odd Split behavior

Phil Pilgrim replied to Phil Pilgrim's discussion Odd Split behavior
"Thanks, Pascal. Attached are two surfaces. The side surface cannot split the top one, even though it completely intersects it. This, however, is only a partial example of the observed behavior, since the curve created with Intersect is incomplete…"
