"Hi Annie, This is a bug and a typo! If you reverse the direction of the curve that you created the surface from, then it will work. The problem is the surface is singular and the length of the base surface the command takes to divide is zero.  I…"

"I am working on adding support for meshes in ptPanel3DCustomVariable command.  It will use any set of meshes from a list, but will need to have exact same structure meshes for the Mean option.  Morphing between 2 meshes that have different…"

"Hi Raja - Actually we are hoping to be use the ptpanel3dcustomvariable command but enforce planarity by selecting meshes. Is there any work-around that would allow us to select meshes here so we could for instance... morph or change between…"

"Hi Raja - I just wanted to revisit this question to see if you had any further tips or developments on how to solve the above issue? We are still hoping to use the 2dvariable commands with triangular unit patterns and maintain a planar surface so the…"

Rajaa Issa replied to annie walsh's discussion 2d variable panels in the group PanelingTools
"Hi Stan,   I do see your problem now and this is why it is happening:   When you generate a grid based out of a free-form surface, the rectangular unit grid is not planar. When you call a custom paneling command this is what…"

"Hello Rajaa,To clarify, this questions is not about a specific design. Instead, it is a basic examples of a very common case experienced by our students. Given that the basic workflow they use is to unfold flat and cut out from paper, planarity is…"

Rajaa Issa replied to annie walsh's discussion 3dcustomvariable panels in the group PanelingTools
"3d custom paneling deforms a given module morphing from the module bounding box to the unit grid (bounded by the 2 grids). this is why it can be hard to enforce special case results, such as planarity. If you need to enforce planar pyramids (like…"

"Annie, Added a new command to PanelingTools called "ptTriangulateFaces" that should do what you need. This will become available when the next Rhino 5.0 WIP is released. "

Rajaa Issa replied to annie walsh's discussion method of unrolling non-planar panels for fabrication in the group PanelingTools
"Hi Annie,   You have few options to deal with non-planar panels:   - If panels are developable (can be unrolled), then ptUnrollFaces or Rhino Unroll command should work.   - In a non-developable surfaces, you have 3 options:   -…"
