We have all our roadway geometrics in Autodesk Civil 3D. Is there a good way to import those geometrics into Rhino?

Hi - I am new to Rhino. Im a grad student and creating a design for an urban design project. My file has gotten so large its very slow and difficult to work on. Any ways to reduce the size or speed up the process? I already used purge and work with most layers off and in wireframe but its still soooo slow. I am also rendering in VRay and using Lands Design to insert thousands of plants. This is a 4 block area and Im creating ALL elements within it: streets, buildings, seating, lights,…Continue

I have 2 Rhino 5 desktop shortcuts. One says Rhinoceros 5 , the other says Rhinoceros 5(64-bit) .
Is this normal and which is the version supposed to use?

I'm always looking out for software tools for my micro Architectural Business here in the UK. By chance I just came across VisualARQ, a plug-in for Rhino. I've looked at a few videos & write-ups & all looks quite impressive & cost effective as well, £1266.00inc.VAT for both. (note: zero experience with these products)
I was therefore wondering if anyone with experience coming from an Architectural CAD background in 2D or 3D & now using VA+R can offer any…Continue

I been using rhino to measure area and I found it funny to display like 1.1343e+07 and sometimes it is +09, +08
Does anyone can tell me why the display is designed this way?
Thanks a million!

Unfortunately, our colleaque said farewell to us.
By change of his design interest.
Therefore, a place for a Grasshopper/Rhino draughtsman with Autocad experience is vacant.
Please let me…Continue

I've been trying Rhino 3D for a day, and followed a tutorial for the glass, then added background, lights and a magazine model. Used a simple plane for the table, default material and voilá!
It's very easy, I'm enjoying it. I've tried a few softwares (i'm trying to find one suitable for game modelling) and while Rhino may not be what I'm looking for (i'm guessing it's not its main purpose), for rendering it's great. And simple…Continue

Regarding my last post with the perspective view issue, what I perceived to be a problem was easily set right by right clicking on the view tab, and setting the origin where I wanted it to be. All is well in the land of pharticus anteequs. Regards, Rob

I'm sure there's a simple answer to this question. Bear in mind that I've never in all my years of using Rhino come across this situation before. The model is to be located as seen in three of the four view with the cutwater at 0,0,0. However, as seen, in perspective the model appears in negative territory, nowhere near where it should be. One thing for sure, as I get older the less I know...cheers, Rob…Continue

I am trying to do some changes in the 3D file of mesh object like change in texture mapping. I try to change the rotation, offset, repeat of texture with Rhino UI but whenever I Changing the Angle of rotation of texture its showing rotated it in clockwise in preview but in actual object it rotating in anticlockwise. Am I doing any mistake while applying a texture or does rhino using something different method while applying the previewed texture which has changes in…Continue

How can I export from Rhino3d to SketchUp?
I downloaded a plugin (export_skp) ... it doesn't show up.
I tried different formats, it is a big mess.
What is the best way and cleanest way to export from Rhino3d to SketchUp?

I found out that it is possible to to scale, rotate, move faces of a closed polysurface by pressing SHIFT + CRTL + Left Mouse Button on a surface. When this is possible there has to be a function where i can move single vertices, but i can´t find it :)
Can someone help me please :) Exploding, Moving Vertices and Joining them back together takes too much time :(

Hi all as you can see I am trying to create a mesh from a simple grid that I've done with nurbs just a surface from 3-4 corner points.
I've been trying to figure out WHY, sometimes it is very arbitrary that when I do mesh from a nurb sometimes it will give you a horizontal line across the plane and sometimes it wont and sometimes it will give you both horizontal and vertical....It is very bugging and I really want to know why and how i can control this...

Can flat pattern lines generated in a panel in Rhino 5 be made to follow the contours of a curved surface or is that only possible in Grasshopper?

New to the forum. Just getting back into using Rhino as I'm starting to design and build furniture again. I have Rhino 4 which I bought as an architecture student and I have loved it ever since I got the hang of it.
Since, for the time being I am mainly going to be doing furniture design (tables, desks, cabinets, etc) I am wondering what the benefits of upgrading to Rhino 5 would be? As far as building my models, Rhino 4 can handle anything that I come up with,…Continue
