A workshop on parametric modeling of optimized freeform structures, using the RhinoScript interface of EvoluteTools Pro. Participants will learn about the concept of so-called half-edge data structures for storing meshes. Such a data structure is available via the RhinoScript interface of EvoluteTools Pro. The features of a halfedge data structure allow to efficiently script parametric models based on input meshes, which may consist of arbitrary n-gons. Throughout the workshop participants will immediately apply their new knowledge for creating, optimizing and
evaluating structures derived from meshes. Meshes may represent facetted surfaces, as well as ruled
or developable surfaces and strip models. Applications cover architecture, naval architecture, mould optimization, hot wire cutting, production data generation, pattern mapping, etc.
Participants can expect to learn about:
• the principles of a halfedge data structure, and how such a data structure is very useful for
scripting and parametric modeling of optimized freeform structures
• the principles and flexibility of parametric modeling using scripting
• as far as needed, basic linear algebra
